Gear Series  - SUP Pumps

Gear Series  - SUP Pumps - You totally need one

Most inflatable stand-up paddleboards (iSUPs) come with a manual pump. Depending on your strength, inflating the board can take about 10-15 minutes. Once you reach around 6 PSI, using a manual pump can become a serious workout. Smaller paddlers often struggle with the last 3-5 PSI.This is why many people end up with partially inflated boards and less fun. To avoid this, we recommend getting an electric pump for your paddle kit.

Most electric SUP pumps cost around $150 and outperform manual pumps in every way. They’re smaller, lighter, easier to pack, and many are portable with a small battery or plug into your car. Electric pumps save you time and energy, deflate your board easily, and make your day on the water more enjoyable.

Let’s look at the only 2 recommended electric pumps that we feel are worth it. But stay till the end if you want to see the honorable mentions.  Additionally, try to support your local SUP Shop when you can. They probably have a SUP Pump recommendation and it’s  in stock, so stop by and see what they have to say.

If you’re looking for a simple, easy to use, and durable electric pump for your inflatable paddleboard, the Earth River SUP 12V electric pump is an excellent choice. In this review, we’ll cover its top features, ease of use, warranty, and more.

Earth River SUP, based in Maryland, entered the paddleboarding scene in 2012. Besides their electric iSUP pump, they offer a range of high-quality inflatable SUPs and accessories. Click here to learn more about ERS Boards and Accessories

The Earth River SUP electric pump includes a car cigarette lighter adapter and a second adapter for direct connection to a 12V battery. It has a pressure gauge, on/off buttons, and a PSI setting wheel. The pump can inflate boards up to 20 PSI.

The no-kink inflation hose has a Halkey Roberts valve, which is compatible with most inflatable SUPs. There are two attachment points on the pump: one for inflation and one for deflation. Additionally, the pump has four spring-loaded feet for shock absorption.

To inflate your board, attach the hose to the "Inflate" port, connect the other end to your board's valve, set the PSI, and press the "On" button. The pump’s two-stage design starts with rapid inflation and switches gears as pressure builds. It automatically shuts off when the set PSI is reached.

For deflation, connect the hose to the "Deflate" port, set the dial to "1," and press "On." Monitor the process as the pump does not automatically shut off when deflating.

Inflation time varies by board size and desired PSI, typically ranging from 10 to 15 minutes. The Earth River SUP 10-7 SKYLAKE takes about 9.5 minutes to inflate to 15 PSI. This pump also comes with a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects.

The Earth River SUP 12V electric pump is a reliable and easy-to-use option for inflating your paddleboard. It plugs into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter, eliminating the need to access the battery. The built-in pressure gauge and auto-shutoff feature prevent overinflation, making it simple to use. After trying it, you’ll appreciate the convenience it offers, saving you time and effort. Highly recommended.

Shark pump pic

The Outdoor Master Shark II Air Pump is one of our top choices for the best electric pump, and for good reason. This is one of the most reviewed pumps on Amazon and is the one you will see in the parking lot of many launch points. Thanks to Outdoor Master’s patented shark cooling system, you can pump up three boards consecutively without needing a break.

The Shark II can pump up to 20 PSI in about 12 minutes, and it inflated a typical 10’ board in just over 11 minutes during recent tests. It features an automatic shut-off, allowing you to set your desired pressure with the digital display and walk away without worrying about over-inflating your board or running the motor too long. The pump comes with six separate valve options, making it easy to handle and store.

The Shark II is easy to carry and store, thanks to its carry handle and flat, oval shape that fits into most iSUP bags. The power cord wraps around the handle for storage and connects to your car’s cigarette lighter. Although there is no built-in cable keeper, a reusable zip-tie is included to keep the cord tidy.

This pump is loved for its speed and ability to inflate multiple boards with minimal rest time. The thirty-minute continuous use time and two-stage inflation system ensure fast and efficient pumping, with an automatic shutdown to prevent overinflating. It also has a deflation valve for easy packing, unique active cooling system, and protective sand filters.

While a bit larger than other pumps, the Shark II’s compact and easy-to-hold design makes it a great addition to any paddleboard kit. It’s backed by a 1-year warranty, and Outdoor Master has above average customer service. We'll likely use this pump until it wears out.

Overall, the Outdoor Master Shark II is one of the best electric pumps available for inflatable paddleboards.
