Highlighting - City Dock Park

South of Washington DC about 45 minutes down I-95 sits the city of Fredericksburg, Va. Fredericksburg straddles the Rappahannock River, which makes for miles of pleasant paddling. The City Dock Park is the best place to start your adventures.

City Dock Park is located a few blocks from the downtown area of historic Fredericksburg. The park has a boat ramp, a fishing area, and ample parking with a small port-o-potty on site.

Once you launch your board you can go upriver (to the left) or downriver. Going upriver will take you under the stunning train bridge (pictured above), and will meander for about 1.5 miles before the water starts to get a little too shallow. But on the other hand, if you head downriver, the Rappahannock River will wind through Virginia for about 85 miles until it empties into the lower Chesapeake Bay. There is plenty of paddling for miles and miles on this river.

City Dock Park in Fredericksburg is another great destination for those looking to get out of Maryland for a bit but still stay on local waterways.
